What makes youth training special | ages 9 to 15
In Jeet Kune Do (JKD), young participants learn not only effective self-defence techniques but also how to build physical and mental strength. By integrating elements of boxing, kickboxing, freestyle wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the students develop a deep understanding of movement sequences and timing. Training pays particular attention to flexibility and speed of reaction. In this way they improve not only their physical fitness but also their ability to make quick decisions and act precisely under pressure.
Through specially tailored exercises, children and teenagers learn to use their body efficiently while building resilience and discipline. Jeet Kune Do training is not only aimed at improving technique but also strengthens trust in their own abilities. Working closely together in the group fosters a sense of community and teaches the students to treat one another respectfully, both on and off the training floor.
Jeet Kune Do youth training makes sure every child has the chance to grow in a safe environment, take on responsibility and increase their mental resilience. It is an ideal choice for young people who want to be physically active and also extend their personal limits.

Frequently asked questions about youth training
Can parents watch the training?
Yes. We have set up a bench in the training hall and a screened-off area with coffee for parents. If you would rather use the waiting time actively, parents can train in our gym area during the youth class. That counts once as a trial session in the gym; after that, parents train with their own membership.
What equipment does my child need to bring?
Comfortable sportswear and clean indoor trainers are enough for training. For everyone under 18, suitable protective equipment is compulsory. This includes in particular head guard, shin guards and groin guard; depending on the class, a mouthguard is added. At the start the school can lend equipment; after that, the equipment needed should gradually be bought yourself. The school provides large training equipment such as punch bags, pads and shields.
From what age is youth training?
The age groups at Shouraki are clearly graded: Panda for ages 3 to 5, Ninja for ages 6 to 8 and Samurai for ages 9 to 15. From age 16 it is on to the adult classes. Which group trains on which day is in the timetable on this page.
Which youth groups are there?
For 9 to 15-year-olds there is the Samurai group; from age 16 you train in the adult classes. Within youth training, elements of boxing, kickboxing, freestyle wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi are trained. The content follows the Jeet Kune Do concept. The teenagers train boxing in two separate groups: one for beginners and one for advanced students. Which session takes place when is in the timetable.
Does my child need previous experience?
No, no previous experience is needed. The groups are set up so that beginners and experienced students can train side by side, and techniques are first practised slowly and cleanly. Our trainers for kids' and youth classes guide every exercise and correct the execution. To try it out, you can book a trial slot online.
What does a youth training session look like?
Every session follows the same structure: a thorough warm-up, then technique training and partner drills, followed by sparring and conditioning, and finally stretching and a cool-down. They train movement sequences, timing and quick decisions under pressure, always alternating with partners. Besides technique, it is about discipline, respect and cohesion in the group.
Is there sparring in youth training?
Yes. Sparring is part of youth training, but it is done in a controlled way and only stepped up once the technique is solid and the teenagers are technically and mentally ready. For everyone under 18, suitable protective equipment is compulsory, in particular head guard, shin guards and groin guard. Mutual respect and guidance from the trainers come first.
How does the trial class for teenagers work?
Your child can train along twice for free, with no obligation and no contract. You choose a slot in advance, arrive about 15 minutes before the start and bring sportswear, clean indoor shoes and something to drink. Equipment needed can be provided at the start. After that the session runs as usual, and there is time for questions afterwards. Free parking and a waiting area for parents are available.
Are there belt gradings in youth training?
Yes. In the Samurai group (ages 9 to 15) there are belts and gradings. Gradings take place every 5 to 8 months. Ask your trainer for the details of the next grading.
