Frequently asked questions about the gym in Aachen

What does the gym at Shouraki offer?

The gym at Shouraki in Aachen has a modern equipment park for every muscle group, a large free weights area, punch bag and mat areas for martial arts and functional training, plus a functional training zone and open circuit training. You train in a friendly, calm atmosphere, without queues and without cameras. Experienced trainers are always on hand.

Can I use the gym without taking a martial arts class?

Yes, open gym time is a separate area and can be used independently of the martial arts classes. You come during opening hours, pick your day and decide for yourself how long to train, with no timetable. If you want to join classes, Shouraki has the LES MILLS fitness classes (overview: Fitness in Aachen (in German)) and the full martial arts programme (Martial arts in Aachen) under the same roof.

When is the gym open?

The gym is open six days a week, in the morning and from the afternoon into the evening, and on Saturdays continuously through the afternoon. We deliberately do not give exact times in this answer because they can change. The current opening hours are further up this page, where the current day is also highlighted.

Is there an induction on my first visit?

Yes, five experienced trainers look after the fitness area and are on hand during opening hours. Getting to know the gym includes a free induction (20 minutes). We take the time to introduce the equipment, show you the most important exercises and go through your goals, exercise selection and technique together. After that you can carry on training freely and ask for help whenever you need it.

Can I try the gym for free?

Yes, you can try the gym once for free, including a free induction (20 minutes) to get to know the place. The equipment is introduced and the key routines are shown to you. You do not need a class: pick a day and come along during opening hours. If you would rather book ahead, you can arrange a free trial session online.

What do I need to bring to train at the gym?

Comfortable sportswear, clean indoor shoes, a towel and plenty of water are enough. Equipment, free weights, mats and punch bags are provided on site. Wear clothes you can move freely in, take off any jewellery and bring a hair tie if you have long hair. There are lockers for valuables.

Are there changing rooms, showers and parking?

Yes, on site there are changing rooms and showers, lockers for valuables and free parking. There is also a comfortable waiting area for parents and a selection of snacks and drinks. The training space is spread across several halls, so classes and open gym time can run side by side.

Can I train while my child is in a class?

Yes, this is expressly intended. While your child trains in the kids' or youth group, you can work out on the equipment in the fitness area or join one of the fitness classes running at the same time. The GRIT sessions, for example, are deliberately scheduled alongside the kids' classes. If you would rather wait, there is a screened-off area with coffee. This counts as your one free trial session in the gym; after that you train with your own membership.

Is personal training available as well as the induction?

Yes. Besides the free induction on your first visit, you can book personal training. All the details are under Personal training in Aachen (in German).
