What a class looks like

Here is a short overview of what to expect in our classes. The plan can vary a little depending on the discipline or the instructor, but it gives you a good idea of how we train.

Be on time!

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the class starts so you have enough time to get changed. We always start on time. If you are running late, please let us know in good time.

Warming up together

A careful warm-up reduces the risk of injury many times over. That is why every class starts with at least 15 to 20 minutes of warm-up exercises.

Technique and partner drills

Jab, cross, hook, uppercut, joint locks, submissions, low kicks, spins and more. You start slowly and gradually get smoother as you learn all the movements of a discipline. Our instructors show you exactly what matters in each technique and check your execution carefully as you rotate between training partners.

Conditioning & sparring

Depending on the class and the skill level of the group, you can put what you have learned to use in several rounds of sparring with different partners. Protective gear and mutual respect are compulsory here. Or you can look forward to creative endurance training on the punch bag or in a group, which will improve your fitness for sure.

Flexibility & cool-down

Careful stretching of the muscle groups and joints you have used is just as important as the warm-up. Our instructors guide you through the exercises with skill.

Frequently asked questions about the free trial class in Aachen

Is the trial class at Shouraki free of charge?

Yes, the trial is free of charge. In the classes you can join in twice, with no obligation and no contract, and then take your time deciding. For the gym there is a single free trial session on the equipment, with a free 20-minute induction so you can get to know the place. No contract is signed at the trial.

How do I sign up for a free trial class?

The easiest way is to pick your preferred date in the booking calendar on this page. You can filter by target group, experience and martial art and see the matching dates straight away. Alternatively, write to us using the form at the bottom of the page or give us a call. Booking in advance matters so that the trainers know you are coming.

What should I bring to a free trial class?

Bring sportswear, ideally in black, plus well-fitting socks or flat trainers and plenty of water. For your first session, any training equipment you need, such as boxing gloves, training sticks or training knives, can be provided. After that you should gradually get the equipment your class requires. Take off any jewellery and bring a hair tie if you have long hair.

When should I arrive for a free trial class?

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the class starts so there is enough time to get changed. We always start on time. If you are running late, please let us know in good time. On site you will find free parking, changing rooms and showers, and lockers for valuables.

What happens in a free trial class?

The trial is a completely normal class. It starts with a thorough warm-up, followed by technique and partner drills and, depending on the class, conditioning or sparring. In the martial arts classes, sparring is done in a controlled way once you are ready technically and mentally. At the end there is stretching and a cool-down. The format can vary slightly depending on the discipline and the instructor. Afterwards there is time for your questions.

Do I need any experience or a certain level of fitness?

No, you need neither previous experience nor any particular level of fitness. The classes at Shouraki in Aachen are split by age and ability, intensity and content are adapted, and the instructors correct your technique. Sparring is added once you are ready technically and mentally. Fitness, strength and flexibility develop on their own as you train.

Which classes can I try in a free trial?

You can choose from the whole range of classes: MMA, kickboxing, Wing Chun, boxing, ground fighting and grappling, Kali and Escrima, the women-only Fitness Kickboxing class, the LES MILLS classes BODYPUMP, BODYCOMBAT and GRIT, and kids' and youth classes. There is also open gym time in the gym. In the booking calendar on this page you can filter by martial art, age and experience.

Is there a free trial for children and for the gym?

Yes, both. Children aged 3 and over and teenagers can join in twice for free in their age group, and parents are welcome to stay and have a waiting area. For the gym there is a separate single free trial session with no fixed class. You come during opening hours, we show you the equipment and take the time for a free 20-minute induction.

Are classes held during school holidays and on public holidays?

During school holidays and on public holidays we decide individually when to close or teach. If in doubt, just ask us before you come.
